Film Transcript
For some people with a disability, however, connections can be difficult to make. They can feel lonely, with no one there to understand them. They can feel frustrated; they might become angry; they might hurt themselves or someone close to them. Negative behaviour is another way of communicating, and if someone isn't being understood they might just feel like giving up altogether. You might too, but we as support workers can help people to feel included and more involved in their own lives.
They'll feel valued and understood, meaning they're more inclined to communicate positively and be accepted into the community just like everyone is. By making an effort to involve people in their lives in as many ways as possible, we can help them form connections of their own.
